Happy Leap Day Everyone!

Sigh…I hesitate to post this because I don’t want to lower my own chances of winning, but I figured I’d share this giveaway that Free People is doing in honor of Leap Day.

They just ask you a few questions about which “girl” of theirs best represents your style and you’re eligible to win some great accessories from them. Good luck!

Fun with Fake Tattoos

I’ve wanted a tattoo for awhile now, but I can never seem to bring myself to do it. However, my interest in tattoos has led me to accumulate an oddly large collection of temporary tattoos, ranging from ones I bought in vending machines for a quarter to ones I bought in toy stores to one that even came in a box of condoms and says, “Mama always told me to play safe.”

Yes, some of them can be childish or weird, but a lot of them can be used to add something different to an outfit or test out spots you may want to get tattoos in the future. I like to bust them out on weekends or if I’m going to a big event, such as a concert.

Urban Decay makes some cool ones that look like necklaces and come with different charms and chains, so you can customize it to your liking, and they have a video on the site showing you how to apply them correctly.

I found this website that has some that are a little more fashionable and a little less for a ten year old and they even have an option to create a custom tattoos.

I’m sure one day I’ll bite the bullet and get a real one, but until then I’m content with playing with fake ones : )

If You Don’t Know, Now You Know!

This past weekend I went to a Cotton Jones concert in Tampa. They’re an indie folk-pop band that I’ve been listening to lately so I thought I’d share the love!  Take a listen!

Wire Rings

I have been using wire for a while to make necklaces, however i just started using it in ring making! All you need is some silver/gold plated wire and some needle nose pliers, both of which can be found at your local craft store. I went to Michael’s and they had so many options, from different beads and jewelry to add, to an assortment of  wires to choose from.

Once you pick out the materials you would like to work with its time to get started!

The first step in creating the basic wire ring is to figure out what you want it to say. The message should be short and sweet. Below are a few examples I created for some inspiration.

initials:  b <3 m (b heart m)

cute sayings: top:  one love (one <3)

initials: bottom: b <3 m

nicknames: cler (middle finger)

cute sayings: one <3 (index finger)

Once you have an idea of what you would like to say, cut off about 3 inches of wire to start bending/twisting. The words you twist your wire into will obviously be in cursive since they will be connected. I found it helps to sketch out your word on paper first so you have an idea in your head of what the ring will end up looking like. After you have your image, take your needle nose pliers and start creating!

Once you have finished wrapping, you will need to attach a band for the ring to stay around your finger. Measure out the wire long enough to fit around whichever finger you would like to wear the ring on. You will need a little extra wire to hook the band on to your design.

It may take a few times before you get it right, but once you get it they’re fun and easy to make! Let me know if you try it out or have any questions!

Buy Me These.

Sense of Fashion is an online marketplace where independent designers can sell their own and vintage products. And it is an awesome place to find one-of-a-kind pieces to mix up your wardrobe. I’ve been obsessing over quite a few pieces from this site.

This piece is by brittneymirandajewelry. She has a lot of great pieces featured and at extremely reasonable prices with free shipping.

Monday Martini has a lot of interesting, cute sweaters and vests featured on the site at reasonable prices and a 14-day return policy.

I’m a sucker for most things with studs and spikes and Nahmi sure does deliver on that with her collection of unique shoes and accessories.

I’m a huge fan of supporting independent designers and Sense of Fashion is a great place to access designers from all over the world.

Layered inspiration

I love any kind of layers, but an easy way to give an everyday outfit something new is to add some layers in bling!

Whether it’s jewelry or apparel, adding layers is super easy and fun to do with both new and old items.

This week I decided to layer some necklaces. The jewelry you choose depends on the look you’re going for. I went for a casual everyday look with sort of a beachy feel. I picked out the necklaces below not only because they have all different lengths, but they also have similar neutral colors that reminded me of the beach.

Whether you dress it up or decide to go casual, it’s up to you. The possibilities are endless here!

Try it out for yourself! We want to see your layered inspiration!
