Killer Products – Undereye Concealers

Whether it’s bags or dark circles, we all know the feeling of waking up and looking like we haven’t slept at all. Today, we’re going to share with you the products we love and our tips for erasing puffiness and hiding those dark circles to achieve a well-rested look.

c’s choice:

I was lucky enough to be genetically blessed with chronic dark circles under my eyes, so covering them up has always been a struggle for me, and I’m always looking for something new to try. I have a huge list of products that I’ve tried and haven’t liked, but for the sake of this post I’m going to focus on the one I’ve had the most success with. BareMinerals Well-Rested Eye Brightener is by far the best product I’ve used to hide my dark circles. The title sort of says it all. It goes on light and doesn’t cake into the fine lines under my eyes. I can still remember the first time I put it on and I couldn’t stop staring at myself in the mirror. I was in awe.

m’s choice:

I am in love with Almay Smart Shade Anti -Aging concealer. I apply it every morning under my eyes before applying my foundation. I put a small amount of the product on my pinky finger, and start applying at the inner corner under my eye and working out, adding more in the darker areas. I then blend the concealer with a continuous dabbing motion while still using my pinky finger. You do not want to be rough with the skin around the eye area. The skin is very fragile and using the light touch of your pinky finger can help prevent unwanted wrinkles. The Almay Smart Shade concealer is very moisturizing, fights signs of anti-aging and has an added bonus with 20 SPF! A definite must here in south Florida! It definitely does the trick for me and always leaves me looking bright and well rested!

Tips:

  • When looking for an undereye concealer, try to find a color that’s a little bit lighter than your natural tone. Also, if you have dark, bluish circles, it helps to find a shade with a bit of a yellow tint to it to help balance the tones out.
  • Use a highlight color (I just use a white, shimmery eyeshadow) in the inner corner of your eye near the tear duct and also just below the outer half of your eyebrows. This really helps brighten and open up the look of your eyes.
  • When applying a liquid concealer, use little dabs of the product and tap repeatedly with your finger rather than rubbing to help blend the product in better.
  • Use extra care when applying product around your eye. The skin is very delicate and you do not want to cause premature wrinkles.

Manicure Monday – Healthy Nails

I am at constant battle with my nails and trying to grow them out to be long and healthy. However, it seems like every time I think I’ve started to achieve healthy nails they immediately all start to break and peel and then I’m back at square one with awful looking nails/cuticles.  Today, I finally went a little youtube crazy and watched a ton of videos on healthy nails and found two that brought up points I think might actually help that I haven’t really heard before. I found the below photo on Pinterest and not only do I love the polish, but the length/shape/condition of those nails is how I eventually want mine to look on a regular basis.

Killer Products – Frizz Fighters

m’s choice:

Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Ever Straight Flat Iron Spray

Even though it isn’t specifically a frizz fighter, it does exactly what I need. The spray includes Brazilian coconut oil and keratin proteins that seal and protect your locks. The avocado oils and cocoa butter smooth and tame those wild fly-aways without weighing down your hair. It keeps volume in my hair and doesn’t add that extra crunch or weight that gels do. I spray it on dry hair before I leave the house and it leaves my hairs smelling like coconuts all day!

Killer Products – Mascara

Here at Bare Bones, we’re both a bit of makeup junkies and love testing out new products, especially when it comes to mascara. We know how disappointing it can be when you buy a new tube of mascara and it just doesn’t live up to the claims on the packaging, so here are a few of our favorite picks!

m’s Choice:

For awhile now, I have been using Maybelline Illegal Length. It goes on very smoothly, with very little clumps. As an added bonus it has micro fiber extensions that really grab on to your lashes and make them look longer! I was skeptical at first, but after using it the first time a noticed a difference. The fibers are like little extensions for your lashes! This mascara stays on all day no problem, with no smudging or running. I am really happy with it and will continue at purchase it at only $6 a tube available at most drug stores!

c’s Choice:

The most results I’ve ever seen from a mascara is from Benefit’s BAD gal Lash. This mascara is meant to create full, voluminous lashes, which it definitely does, and it gives some added length. However, at $19 a tube at Macy’s, it’s more of a “treat myself” kind of product.

When I don’t have the money to go for the BAD gal Lash, I’ve been leaning towards Neutrogena Healthy Lengths. It generally costs around $6-$8 at most drug stores. The reason I love this product is it’s meant to help stimulate growth in lashes while adding length with each application. Also, it goes on in a really smooth, shiny, extreme black color that really makes my eyes pop.

1 Day…Hot Mess Hair

Spring is the season for natural beauty and minimalism. So what’s better than an effortless hair style that looks like you just came back from a day outdoors to match?

The relaxed hair style looks simple and elegant at the same time. So how do you achieve this just came back from the beach look? From curling, twisting, scrunching, and braiding there are many ways to reach your desired wave.

Living in Florida, this is my go to hair style. My hair has some curl to it so in order to tone it down a bit, I use argan oil. It’s a little heavier than mouse which helps tone down fly aways. It also has some great benefits to protect and nourish your strands. I put the oil in after I get out of the shower in a scrunching motion, then let it air dry. I also like to pull it half way up in a clip to give it some added volume.

Another way to instantly add a little wave to dry, straight hair? Try throwing your hair into a lose braid starting at the nape of your neck. After that, run a straight iron across the braid to get an instant wavy look.

Pull your hair into a messy bun for an instant, romantic feel.

I love this look because of the minimal effort that comes along with it. It’s great for an easy everyday look or even a night out!
